The fourth episode of Loki, “The Nexus Event,” has a lot of shocking moments. Mobius got vaporized while giving a defiant speech. Lady Sif showed up, proving that she didn’t become the Mark Brendanawicz of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The post-credits scene went all “Into the Loki-Verse:. Owen Wilson said, “How?” and it sounded as delightfully weird as when he says, “Wow!” But one of the bigger moments was the big revelation about the Time-Keepers....

Originally released (in full) in South Korea in 2019, Lost Ark is an MMORPG with Diablo-like ARPG combat. The game quickly grew a sizeable fanbase in that region thanks to its PvP mechanics, extensive content offerings, cinematic style, and all those other MMO tropes that usually encourage people to gleefully spend a few hundred hours of their lives playing them. So, while Lost Ark has been playable in South Korea and other regions for quite some time, those in the West who recently pre-ordered any of the Lost Ark Founder’s Pack on Steam were also able to start playing the game yesterday (February 8)....

Lovecraft Country is an unambiguous hit for HBO. The supernatural horror adaptation of Matt Ruff’s book of the same name helped prop the network up during the dog days of summer as the television landscape was unusually dry to the coronavirus pandemic. Under normal circumstances, a Lovecraft Country season 2 would be a given and HBO would have already publicly announced its commission. But as the Lovecraft Country season 1 finale reveals, this might not be normal circumstances and the show really may have been envisioned as a one-season enterprise....

One of the most exciting aspects of the new Marvel Disney+ series Loki so far has been the introduction of the concept of Variants, different versions of familiar characters whose choices and actions have diverged from their primary timeline in some way. The show, for example, isn’t about the Loki we saw die in Avengers: Infinity War, but follows a version of the character who stole the Tesseract and disappeared following the Battle of New York in the wake of some Avengers-style time heist hijinks....

Marvel’s What If…? episode 2 was already a big deal due to it being the late Chadwick Boseman’s final performance as T’Challa. “What If… T’Challa Became Star-Lord” is definitely a bittersweet half hour, showing the would-be Black Panther turning the Ravagers into a force for good and having a truly positive effect on the universe itself. In this reality, Yondu didn’t personally oversee the kidnapping of Peter Quill as he did in the opening moments of Guardians of the Galaxy, and instead let Kraglin and Taserface take care of the task....

You wouldn’t know it if you watched the Disney+ TV series, but Moon Knight is a superhero with at least one foot planted firmly in the spookier corners of the Marvel Universe. The character first appeared as an antagonist in an issue of Werewolf by Night, for one thing, and because of his ties to an Egyptian moon god of vengeance has always flirted with the supernatural. Never has that been more true than in the current Moon Knight comic series, where the hero has opened the Midnight Mission, protecting “those who travel by night” from threats both earthly and unearthly, and populating its supporting cast and antagonists with vampires....

The app already boasts a massive library, with over 29,000 comics digitized and available to read, essentially the entirety of Marvel Comics history. And now, with this new update, you can go ahead and download them all. Previously, users had been limited to 12 issues downloaded for offline reading. That cap is being lifted, enabling saving for much longer travel. The new Marvel Unlimited is also getting more customized features, like personalized reading list recommendations based on your reading history; the ability to curate and share your own reading lists; and back end changes that will (hopefully) eliminate the dreaded dead page that would periodically force you to reload the entire issue....

Ending a horror story is hard. Perhaps no one knows that better than Mike Flanagan, the writer-director behind horror hits like Doctor Sleep, The Haunting of Hill House, and The Haunting of Bly Manor. After observing the occasional less-than-enthusiastic reaction to the endings of some of his other projects, Flanagan decided to end his latest, Netflix series Midnight Mass, on his own terms. “I didn’t want to come up with an ending that I thought would please people,” Flanagan told Den of Geek and other outlets prior to Midnight Mass’s premiere....

My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 12 “We need to know more about this power.” My Hero Academia’s previous episode started to move its characters into a more relaxed place now that the Joint Training Arc battles have reached their conclusion. This laid back energy takes up the entirety of “The New Power and All For One” and this is mostly a disposable episode that’s full of entertaining interactions between characters....

My Hero Academia Season 5 Episode 25 “Let me ask you, why do you still wish for more power?” My Hero Academia has always been very elegant with its exploration of the fine line that can exist between hero and villain, but that’s never been more apparent than after the events of this bifurcated season. Season five of My Hero Academia heads into this finale with newfound empathy and anxiety. The tension that exists between the Pro Heroes Association and the League of Villains Paranormal Liberation Front is rejuvenated in a way that it hasn’t been in years....

Ah, the sorry tale of the New Mutants movie. Completed just as Disney absorbed 20th Century Fox, Josh Boone’s horror-tinged YA X-Men flick never got its promised reshoots, was shelved, had its release date kicked around the calendar – first by an indifferent studio and then by the pandemic – before finally arriving with a whimper in limited theatrical release earlier this fall and (finally) on streaming last week. Like its troubled young characters, New Mutants bears the scars of its difficult past, and then gets saddled with the added burden of being neither a true coda to 20 years of Fox’s X-Men movies (last year’s rightfully maligned Dark Phoenix got that “honor”) nor is it vivid or exciting enough to be considered a way to potentially kickstart mutants into the MCU....

The Umbrella Academy season 3 is set to be released June 22 and it will be a busy one for the Hargreeves family of crime fighters. After averting a 1963 nuclear apocalypse in season 2, the gang returns to the present only to find there’s a new team called the Sparrows living in their house. Based on the trailer for season 3, hilarity and many superpowers punches thrown will ensue....

The key to both the original and New Pokémon Snap’s success is the on-rails gameplay, which ironically opens up a litany of creative avenues for the developers to riff on. You sit in a roving pod called the Neo One, which pilots you down a (mostly) predetermined route through a lush environment while you try to take aesthetically pleasing photographs of Pokémon in their natural habitat. Photos are scored at the end of each expedition by several criteria, including how centered the Pokémon is in the frame, how large they are in the frame, the direction they’re facing, etc....

Interestingly, though, that may prove to be both a blessing and a curse as New World‘s own players have proven to be the source of some of the game’s best and worst features across its various beta periods. Now, it’s obviously impossible to give a full, fair review of New World at this point considering that the game isn’t even out yet. For that matter, it’s likely going to take months for us to be able to fairly assess the quality, state, and future of the game as MMOs are constantly evolving and therefore notoriously difficult to form thorough first impressions of....
