He helped Linda Ronstadt take the standards out of the elevator. Riddle scored hundreds of films, many of them classics because of his soundtracks. He arranged, produced, conducted and composed timeless sides, ushered in the popularity of concept albums, and transformed overlooked melodies into instantly recognizable song staples....

Joby Harold has been brought aboard the still-untitled Obi-Wan Kenobi series as a writer, according to Variety. A producer from television shows such as WGN’s Underground and Netflix’s Spinning Out, Harold’s writing credits consist of co-writing director Zack Snyder’s upcoming Netflix zombie movie, Army of the Dead, along with 2017 Guy Ritchie-directed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which was his first since his 2007 written/directorial effort, Awake. Operation Mincemeat is now celebrated as “the most spectacular episode in the history of deception.” That is one of the commanding final sentences at the end of Netflix’s World War II drama, Operation Mincemeat. And barring the likely fictional story of the Trojan Horse (which is also name-checked in the new film as one of the early, poorly selected codenames for this spy game), that assertion is fairly true. As a plan to convince Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich’s espionage service, the Abwehr, that Britain and her allies would invade Greece and the island of Sardinia—instead of Sicily—Operation Mincemeat persuasively put the Nazis on the wrong foot during a pivotal moment in 1943....

Outlander Season 6 has the challenge of a condensed timeline to pull together multiple plot elements. Episode 2 had the additional challenge of answering questions previous seasons left blank. Fans who didn’t read the book may still be confused, but it’s clear this episode has to set up the potential for future political clashes. Overwatch 2 players were stunned to boot up the team shooter and see that Mei had been removed from the game. At first, some players suspected that she was impacted by one of the game’s bugs. Instead, it turns out that Mei’s removal was very much intentional. Yes, much like Bastion and Torb, it turns out that Mei was removed from Overwatch 2 due to some serious problems with the character....

While there is much to be said about the legacy of that game and the decision to shut its servers down for good, Blizzard hopes that conversation will be drowned out by the release of the free-to-play Overwatch 2. Yes, after some back and forward decision-making regarding what, exactly, Overwatch 2 will be, Blizzard has decided to turn their often controversial and confusing project into the only official way to play Overwatch from now on....

The Garrison Tavern really needs to vet its staff more closely. Back in season one, it hired a barmaid who turned out to be working undercover as a spy for Churchill and the Royal Irish Constabulary. Her name was Grace, and her threat was neutralised when she fell in love with the owner Tommy Shelby and became his wife. The Garrison’s next spy wasn’t neutralised with a wedding, but with a gunshot to the head....

“In my mind, before the series began he was going to shoot himself and then thought to himself – and the quote in my mind is the Francis Bacon quote, which is “Since it’s all so meaningless, you might as well be extraordinary” – so he thought there’s no point, but let’s just do it anyway. And he’s reached a point at the beginning of this series where he can’t do it anymore....

Star Trek: Picard Season 2 Episode 7 Continuing a kind of mash-up between 12 Monkeys and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, Season 2 of Star Trek: Picard has entered into its final batch of episodes. In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, players are tasked with making what may very well be the first chronological Pokedex. Since the game takes place in the past, audiences will encounter many Pokémon they likely already caught in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, but they will also paradoxically find many creatures never seen before in a Pokémon game. Of course, since Hisui is just a Meiji-era Sinnoh, all of these new Pokémon are either variants or evolved forms of familiar faces, but they are equally mysterious to longtime Pokémon fans and newcomers alike....

Power Rangers Ninja Steel Episode 1 I don’t think I’ve ever been more apathetic to a Power Rangers premiere in my life. Usually I’m really hyped! New characters, new plots, new theme song! There’s a hope that even if the last season wasn’t my favorite, this one will be able to step up. It’s tough to feel that way after Dino Super Charge was such a train wreck. It cannot be overstated how the end of that show completely nuked a lot of the hope I had in this franchise....

Ethan will face all new threats in Village, including (for the first time in series history) werewolves and vampires. Those are some giant obstacles, but even they are dwarfed by Lady Dimitrescu, the nine-foot-tall vampiric lady of the castle that stands high above this mysterious village. Will Ethan survive? We’ll have to wait and see. Shot in a fast-paced, classic screen-comedy style, the film is intra-dimensional, extraterrestrial and sonically grounded. The score was composed by Danny Elfman, who wrote the theme song to The Simpsons, the music to The Nightmare Before Christmas and did the singing voice of Jack Skellington, and won six Saturn awards. I don’t know what planet the aliens in Aliens, Clowns & Geeks are from, but I now know even insane biker clowns may not be what they seem....

Rick and Morty Season 4 Episode 2 To keep its storytelling fresh, one of the best tools a sitcom has is character pairings. All you have to do to shake things up from time to time is pair characters off in different configurations from the norm and, if you’ve got a strong cast, funny stuff should ensue. In “The Old Man and the Seat,” we get a Summer and Beth plot; a Morty and Jerry plot; and a Rick all by his lonesome plot....

In case you missed it, the American Horror Story season 6 has been all about a bloody “Roanoke Nightmare.” After promoting the new season without releasing a single frame of footage, the ever cryptic Ryan Murphy unveiled his “true crime” satire-meets-American Gothic to a surprised public last September, leading many to wonder… what is “Roanoke,” again? In fact, several publications (who will go unnamed) initially asserted that the name infamously tied to the words “Lost Colony” was made up for the series, and that this fictional ghost story was set in Virginia (Roanoke is in present day North Carolina)....

However, by the time of his seventh Bond effort, 1985’s A View to a Kill, it was clear that the 57-year-old Moore was simply aging out of the role. Moore stepped down, and auditions began in earnest for a new Bond to take over in what would become 1987’s The Living Daylights. One of the actors under serious consideration, and who was reportedly the frontrunner with some members of Eon, was New Zealand-based Sam Neill....

Hired for his dark and menacing presence, Raft doesn’t have many lines in Scarface. To give the inexperienced actor something to do, Hawks directed him to flip a nickel. Raft practiced the toss to perfection, setting the film up for one of the most memorable mob movie moments: a coin rolling across a floor to a dead stop. Raft would later recount how a real wise guy reprimanded him for flipping such an insulting denomination....
